Security and Safety in the Work Place

This week I was saddened by the loss of life brought to our attention in Paris, Beirut, and Iraq. So I’ve struggled with not making this conversation shallow.

Is there anything I can do to help here in my safe office?

Believe it or not we all have a stake in the safety and security of our workplaces and personal lives.   Paul Krugman quoted “ … the goal of terrorists is to inspire terror, because that’s all they’re capable of. And the most important thing our societies can do in response is to refuse to give in to fear.” At Upward we’re trying to move forward while being contentious. We know that the best thing we can do in the face of unwanted violence is to continue making progress by helping those around us which include our neighbors, our families, and our clients who all do very worthwhile work.

So this week I’m determined not to give into fear. I’m going to do what I can to improve the lives of my family, friends and employees. I hope you can think about doing the same. There are heavy losses that abound this week. But the heaviest loss would be a society of intelligent people giving into the chaotic and violent acts of shameful organizations.
